For the first time in recent history, the 2026 course stages Transition 1 (Run-Run) and Transition 2 (Run-Bike) out of two separate parking lots. Please study the map and read our recommendations related to parking, staging, and transporting racers during the race. With careful and thoughtful preparation, we believe our participates will be set-up to minimize stress and likelihood of missing transitions on race day.

IMPORTANT FACTS TO KNOW

  • Transition 1 will be staged near West Village Lodge. Transition 2 will be staged in the center lot at Sunrise.
  • Skyliner Lot will be utilized as a 2-way road to offer access to non-racing bikers who need to bring their bike down from West Village, to racers who want to drop off their bike via car, and to the INTER-LODGE shuttle that will be running to help racers transition from one zone to another.
  • NO ENTRY will be allowed from Century Drive directly to Sunrise Lot. This is to protect bikers on course.
  • Mt. Bachelor will have flaggers to support parking lots and 1-way section of route. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will be flagging traffic on Century Drive.
  • ONLY racers in Pairs categories AND support people for Individual categories will be allowed access to Sunrise upper lot after 9am. Be prepared to show your Support Bib or Pairs Pass!

REQUESTS FOR ALL RACERS

  • Plan for increased traffic on Century Drive – the gate to Cascade Lakes Highway will be open this year. Plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time in ALL cases.
  • Plan to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your start time to ensure you have time to orient to this new layout and give yourselves time to stage your bike and transport yourself back to the start.
  • Plan to utilized the Inter-Lodge Shuttle that will be running from 7:30am until last racer is on the bike course. However, do not plan for the Inter-Lodge Shuttle to be quick/reliable enough to help you get to the Run-Bike transition in time to meet your on-course teammate. Shuttle will transport from the base of the hot walk near West Village Lodge to the upper lot at Sunrise Village.
  • Be courteous to all involved and let’s keep the good-natured community spirit of PPP alive. The new location of the Run-Bike transition will impact all racers, but MOST ESPECIALLY racers in all pairs categories. All racers in the teams categories may only access Sunrise Lot by car before 9am. Only cars with pairs passes or support bibs will be allowed to access Sunrise by car after 9am, or stop engines.

INDIVIDUALS CATEGORY NOTES

  • Plan to arrive 2 hours ahead of start time.
  • There will be limited parking available in the Sunrise Lot. Cars showing support bibs will be allowed to access the lot at any point during the race. However please do not plan to come and go by car. Please drop the bike ahead by riding it down from West Village and then shuttle back, or have support person drop bike by car and wait in Sunrise Lot to support transition there.
  • Support people will only be needed in a limited capacity at Mt. Bachelor this year, and certainly not for the Run-Run transition as individuals will be running straight through. Depending on whether or not a racer is changing to bike shoes, a support person might not need to stay at Mt. Bachelor once individual racer has started.

PAIRS CATEGORY NOTES

  • If you had planned to alternate every-other, the Inter-Lodge shuttle will be not be quick/reliable enough to transport your Mountain Runner to the Run-Bike transition in time to meet your Fun Runner.
  • We ordered the Fun Run Leg (replacing Alpine Leg) 2nd because we recommend to Pairs that whomever does the Fun Run Leg ALSO does the Bike Leg (typically the same athlete as the Alpine Leg). This is our STRONG RECOMMENDATION to ensure smoothest transitions.
  • Alternatively, you may have your former Nordic Racer complete BOTH runs (4 miles total) and former Alpine Racer would just complete the Bike Leg. Keep in mind, however, that the likelihood of a biker beating the driving pair to the Bike-Run transition in town is even higher this year due to the fact that the driving racer will need to make it through two flagger zones instead of one.

TEAMS CATEGORY NOTES

  • Only plan to drop your bike and biker off by car should be you arrive prior to 9am. Only cars with Pairs Passes and Support Bibs will be allowed access to the Sunrise Lot after the race has started.
  • Best to plan to park your team’s car at West Village Lodge and have your biking racer ride their bike, via the Skyliner route, to the Run-Bike transition. After the Fun Run racer completes the course, they may take the shuttle back to West Village to pick-up the car/join the Mountain Run racer.
